Watadoll blends the curiosity of a mini zoo with the laid-back vibe of a café, tucked away on the 5th floor of a building in the bustling Osu area of Nagoya. This spot feels more like an unusual local hangout than a typical coffee shop, where visitors come not for elaborate drinks or meals, but for the chance to interact closely with an array of small animals. The main attraction is the owls—carefully tended and a quiet presence here—alongside other creatures like hedgehogs and lizards that add to the tactile, hands-on experience.

Finding Watadoll is part of its character. The café is accessed via a discreet elevator or a winding red staircase that blends into the eclectic shopping district below. Without obvious signage, the ascent itself feels like stepping into a secret corner of the neighborhood, inviting a more intimate visit. A mix of locals and curious travelers pop in here during quieter daytime hours to relax away from Osu’s usual street-level bustle.

The atmosphere is a calm nook for anyone fascinated by wildlife, especially those wanting a gentler, slower-paced interaction with animals that contrasts sharply with the city’s energetic streets. This is not about grabbing a quick coffee to go, but settling in to calmly observe or gently hold creatures, with drinks available to complement the experience. Paid parking nearby makes it accessible for visitors coming by car, though the location suits those who enjoy exploring the layered streets and floors of Osu.

Watadoll fits into Osu’s patchwork of cultural and quirky spots, offering a different kind of local engagement—more tactile and quietly joyful than noisy or fast-paced. It’s ideal for small groups or individuals who appreciate the unusual and want a personal moment with nature amid the urban environment.

This is located on the 5th floor of the red staircase building. So we had to look around a bit to find the location as the signage was missing when we went there. Other than that, cute animals to cuddle. This is more of a mini zoo with drinks to order than a cafe. Very u nique experience overall.

Before I start, I have to say that while this place is on the 5th floor, there is an elevator that isn't obvious and isn't in plain sight. I climbed up the stairs and I have a fear of stairs/heights so I'm glad the employee told us this as we were leaving. To find this place, find the red spiral stairs, climb up the first set of stone stairs then stop as you reach the red stairs. On your right there is a door that leads inside a small corridor, there is an elevator there. To the review! This place was amazing, there was such a variety of animals, and they were all so friendly and well maintained. There was a smell but that's to be expected. There was a pig, rabbits, lots of owls, birds, sugar gliders, lizards, snakes, rats, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, a duck, an eagle, snapping turtle, tortoises, meerkats and probably more I forgot to mention. It isn't a restaurant, but you can get a small bottled drink for 110yen. We paid 1650 per person for an hour. Don't forgot to leave on time, because they will overcharge you without telling you. The start time will be written on a card that is then strapped around your neck.

This was my first time going to a owl cafe. (Well, a cafe where you aren’t supposed to get food; just enjoy the owls and every other animals) I did not expect to find an owl cafe in the city of Nagoya, but this really is a great place that allows customers to have a close experience with owls, hedgehogs, lizards and some others. I think there are about 6-7 owl species, and they received sound care. The staff were nice, and the price was reasonable.
